How to Estimate Paint Needed for Walls
A useful paint estimate combines net surface area, number of coats and the coverage shown on the specific product. Surface condition and application method can change real consumption.

Calculate paintable area
Multiply each wall length by its height and add the results. Subtract large doors and windows. Include ceilings or feature walls separately when they use a different product.
Apply coats and coverage
Multiply area by the number of coats, then divide by the manufacturer coverage per litre. New, porous or repaired surfaces may need primer or use more paint than a sealed smooth wall.
Choose practical tin sizes
Add a modest allowance and round up to available tin sizes. Keep colour batches consistent for large visible surfaces and follow the product instructions for preparation, drying and recoating.
