How to Use the Commute Cost Calculator South Africa

Monthly km = one-way km × 2 × office days. Fuel = monthly km × L/100 km ÷ 100 × price. Car cost = (fuel + wear + daily parking and tolls × days) ÷ carpool people + fixed costs. Public transport = return daily fare × days, or monthly ticket.

How to use the commute cost calculator south africa

Enter one-way distance. Choose actual monthly office days or weekly days converted with 52/12 weeks. Add consumption, pump price, return daily tolls, parking and wear per km. Compare with your fare per one-way trip or monthly ticket.

Worked example (illustration only)

25 km one way, 20 office days, 7 L/100 km and R25/litre gives R1 750 fuel. Add R30/day tolls, R50/day parking and R1/km wear: R4 350/month or R52 200 for 12 similar months. On R25 000 monthly income this is 17.4%. Prices are examples.

What the result includes

Only variable car costs are divided by carpool people. Fixed costs are optional ownership costs and are not shared. A monthly ticket replaces daily fares. Annual figures assume similar travel every month; holidays and remote work may reduce actual spending.

Compare fairly

Use actual office days where possible. The weekly conversion is an average and does not subtract leave or public holidays. Enter connecting fares in your combined one-way fare. This calculator compares entered costs, not published fares.
