How to Plan Toll Costs for a South African Trip
Toll cost depends on the route, plazas passed and vehicle class. A useful estimate lists every expected plaza rather than applying one general cost per kilometre.

Confirm the actual route
Identify the national roads and toll plazas on the route in each direction. A return trip may pass the same plazas twice, while an alternative road can change distance, time and fuel use.
Choose the correct vehicle class
Light vehicles normally use a different tariff from vehicles with more axles or greater height. Confirm how the operator classifies the vehicle, especially for trailers, minibuses and commercial vehicles.
Check before departure
Tariffs can change and discounts or electronic arrangements may have conditions. Use the estimate for budgeting, then verify current fees with SANRAL or the relevant concessionaire.
