How to Use the Fuel Range Calculator

Fuel left = tank capacity × fuel percentage ÷ 100, or enter litres. Adjusted L/100 km = measured consumption × (1 + your conditions estimate ÷ 100). Safe range = max(0, fuel left − tank reserve litres) ÷ adjusted consumption × 100.

How to use the fuel range calculator

Enter tank capacity, choose percent or litres, and enter fuel remaining. Choose L/100 km or km per litre. Set the percentage of the full tank to keep in reserve and any estimated consumption increase. Add trip distance to estimate refuels.

Worked example (illustration only)

A 50-litre tank at 60% contains 30 litres. Keeping 10% of tank capacity (5 litres) in reserve leaves 25 usable litres. At 8 L/100 km, safe range is 312.5 km, versus 375 km before reserve. Example only.

What the result includes

The reserve is a percentage of full tank capacity. Empty fuel levels are allowed and give zero range. Refuel counts assume each stop fills the tank and the same consumption throughout; they do not locate stations.

Fuel gauge limitations

Fuel gauges and consumption displays are estimates. Hills, load and traffic can change use. A conditions percentage is your own assumption, not a measured effect of towing or air conditioning. Refuel before the reserve and confirm station availability.
